Despite being on the verge of her first teeth, Avery was a trooper! Laid back, and easy going, Avery was all about checking everything out. After making sure she knew what was going on around her, she would turn those big gorgeous eyes our way, and flash her beautiful eyelashes at us. Her sweet nature is sure to make your heart melt.

Let There Be Water!

July 30, 2007

We’ve been in our new location approaching two years now, and have slowly been making improvements to our property. One place that has needed some tender loving care has been the center of our circle drive. Thus far it has been a dirt or mud pit with some pretty weeds! It’s also been a great place for catching unsuspecting drivers when they back up into the middle of it and sink in the mud, snow, and muck!

Last week it received an overhaul! Kevin and the team from Swan’s Water Gardens came out and installed a water garden for us. It’s gorgeous! A beautiful waterfall feeds into a little stream which feeds into a big pond.

Over the weekend, Pete added some water plants, and a few fish. The big story is the fish; we added five goldfish and two Koi. They have disappeared! Every once in a while you can see a couple of the peanut sized goldfish, but for the most part we haven’t seen any of the fish since we added them. We’re hopeful that they’re just timid and hiding, as opposed to some scary critter having had them for lunch!

We plan to add landscaping around the pond, once it gets a little cooler, and the plants won’t be frying under the sun.

Supporting Down Syndrome

July 24, 2007

As many of you know, over the last couple of years, I have been using my photographic talent and love of children, to benefit the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City. I have been blessed to have the opportunities to work with many local families. In doing so, we have created many beautiful works of art that are helping to create support and awareness. Our goal is to showcase the beauty of Down syndrome.

In 2004, I photographed Isaac’s newborn session. Over the years, Isaac has become a very familiar face around the studio. Many clients have begun to recognize him and frequently ask about him. This has been a great opportunity to heighten the awareness of Down syndrome.

In 2006, my very close college friend gave birth to Nadia. I felt very lucky to have an insight and experience into Nadia’s world.

Though I haven’t begun to experience the journey of a parent of a child with Down syndrome, I want to support them in any way I can! Please join me, by supporting me or joining me at the 2007 Kansas City Buddy Walk on Saturday, September 22nd.

The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. All funds raised at the Buddy Walk stay in the Kansas City area, and benefit the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City.

The walk is a one mile walk around Kauffman and Arrowhead Stadiums. Kansas City is proud to host one of the largest Buddy Walks in the nation! The festivities go from 10 AM-2 PM with the Buddy Walk at 12:30 PM on Saturday, September 22nd.

They Grow Up SO Fast!

July 18, 2007

I can’t believe that Kennedy & Jackson have just turned FOUR! It makes me feel SO old.

The first time I photographed them, they were six months old. One of my all time favorite images is from their one year session. It’s not a fantastic, artistic image, but it’s the image that completely portrays the way that session went. It was also the first time I really understood and was awed by what a mother of twins experiences. One of them could be completely happy…but then the other one would start crying…so now they are both crying…and then one of them wants mommy to pick them up…so now of course, they both want mom…and here’s mom with two crying kiddos hanging off of each hip! Kimberly, you still amaze me!

Then of course, there was their unforgettable two year session. Ooh, so sweet!

Now they’re FOUR and are continuing to develop amazing personalities!

Life was nice when it was just Joey and Simba!

Then along came Joey’s little sister, Pebbles, and Simba took a beating, and had a few surgeries!

Through the wonders of eBay, I was able to find a Simba replacement. Joey & Simba are best buddies – in one piece – again!

But Joey’s keeping a watchful eye out for that pesty sister!

Chicagoland Baby!

July 16, 2007

Avery just became a Chicagoland baby! Her daddy got a new job, and they moved North. However, I was lucky enough to have mommy and Avery come back to Kansas City for Avery’s six month session. What a joy she is, so full of smiles and happiness! I can’t believe how much she has grown since her newborn session. I just love her buddha belly!

Jumping High

July 14, 2007

Meet Miss Madalynn…she may have been on the move during her session, but she was always ready with a smile, a story or the biggest jump!

Flying High!

July 11, 2007

How do you photograph two little ones who won’t hold still? You hold them up in the air, upside down!
