From Beautiful to Cold!

December 31, 2007

The coast was beautiful and warm, even in December! We had a little bit of rain, but it couldn’t ruin our relaxing trip!

We arrived home from Gulf Shores, AL yesterday. After one short day at home, we are off on our next trip. Although we had a couple of extremely delayed flights, and a lot of time spent waiting at the airport, both Joey and Pebs did great! I definitely see future airplane travels in their futures.

Next, we are driving six hours into the “wrong” direction – Rochester, Minnesota. My good college friends, Cheri & Brian, gave birth to an adorable baby girl, Adele, last Thursday. We are headed up their way to meet and photograph baby Adele.

Cheri knows that she owes me big time! I HATE cold weather! Last time we visited them, it was April, and it was cold! Now, I’m headed that way, with forecasted highs in the low teens! I must be crazy!

Gulf Shores

December 29, 2007

We have spent the week between Christmas and New Years in Gulf Shores, Alabama – on the beach! We took Joey and Pebbles on their first airplane trip leaving the day after Christmas. After a small sedative, they calmed down and were pretty comfortable in their small carry-on pet carriers. They were a little noisy waiting to get on the plane, but once we were on and seated they were as quiet as could be. For many of you who know them, you know that quietness is a miracle! We were very happy that it went so smoothly.

They have loved their first trip to the beach. Running and jumping with sand flying out from under their feet. We’ve taken many strolls on the beach, and they even got to visit Fort Morgan with us on Thursday. They loved exploring and climbing all over the 150 year old fort.

It has been a very nice, relaxing trip. Of course, when you have to drive 20 miles just to find an internet connection, and a good cell signal, how can you do anything else but relax!

Right away, Kara, was quite unsure about her portrait session. I, on the other hand, knew that we were going to have a blast. Kara was herself in front of the camera. Laughing, giggling, smiling – even making some really bad funny faces! We gave her a hard time about not being the next “America’s Next Top Model”, when she couldn’t turn her head and her body in different directions. Despite some posing challenges, we had a lot of fun, and captured some very beautiful images of Miss Kara.

Happy Holidays!

December 24, 2007

Thank you all for another wonderful year! It has been an amazing year, with lots of great changes. I couldn’t have done it without each of you, your support and business is a blessing and very much appreciated. I hope everyone’s holidays are relaxing and fun!

The studio will be closed from December 23rd-January 11th. I will have limited access to email and voicemail, but will try to return messages as time permits. Check back on our blog during this time, I will try to keep it updated with our comings and goings!

I’m looking forward to seeing what exciting changes 2008 has in store for us!

Snowy & Cold Wedding

December 20, 2007

Pete’s college roommate, and best man from our wedding, Ryan, married the beautiful Emily a couple of weeks ago at the Danforth Chapel on KU’s campus. We were, of course, very excited to be celebrating this wonderful day with the adorable couple.

Before the wedding, we had a chance to meet up and do a short wedding portrait session. Every thing was perfect…Emily looked beautiful, Ryan looked handsome, and the snow on the ground made for a gorgeous scene. The only problem…it was maybe 20 degrees outside, with a wind-chill that made it seem like 2! Okay, so maybe I’m exaggerating just a little, but we were outside for quite a while, so I know for a fact that it was COLD!

Emily & Ryan were great sports, especially Em! I was cold, even though I was wearing pants, boots and a heavy coat! Emily was wearing a very thin wedding gown!

The numb fingers, toes and noses were worth it, though! I think the images turned out awesome. The campus and the snow were beautiful, along with the now happily married couple. Congratulations, Ryan & Emily!

The Holiday Season Has Come to a Close!

December 19, 2007

As much as I love the holiday season, because of it’s crazy business…I dread it a little as well! This year was no different, as it was an insanely busy time.

I think my holiday season actually started way back in August, due to the crazy number of newborns that were born that month! Right away we were in full running mode, lucky to get 4-5 hours of sleep a night! I am thrilled to say that I delivered my last set of Christmas cards today!

Of course, a lot of the work that I put to the side, because it wasn’t a holiday priority, has now become an "I’m behind" priority! That’s okay, the stress of meeting the very important holiday deadline is officially over! I will enjoy these next couple of weeks as we travel all over the country, for fun and for work. Come the new year, I will be hitting the ground running, again!

I wish I could take my blankies and cuddle up in my "snuggle ball" – oh the life of a dog!

Happy Baby!

December 19, 2007

Hannah is a very happy baby! Whether she was wearing a tutu, just a bow or taking photos with mommy, she was smiling.

She’s also a very active baby! It turned out to be very lucky that all her outfits hindered her ability to move. The tutu slowed her down, she stuck to the cold floor when she was naked and mommy had a tight grip on her. Or else we would have been photographing a shrinking baby, as she continuously moved away from us…backwards…since that’s the only way she knows how!

Daddy’s Boy

December 17, 2007

The night of his session, Finley had a Christmas program. He was very excited as he looked forward to dancing, singing and smiling big! He wouldn’t sing any songs for me, however, because he had to surprise daddy that night at the show. Needless to say, he was really looking forward to performing for daddy! Trying to get photos of Finley & daddy proved to be a little challenging, since all he wanted to do was wrestle!

Winter Wonderland?

December 13, 2007

Or yucky, icky mess? Depends on if you are out in it, or inside looking out at it!

Wild & Crazy!

December 12, 2007

Tyler is a wild and crazy man, and his sister is starting to follow in his footsteps! From the moment Tyler walked in, he was checking everything out! Investigating, running, moving…there was no slowing him down. I gave him the very important job of being my assistant, which definitely mellowed him out for a bit! He was a great assistant when it came to photographing his sister, Nicole. He stood right behind me, playing peek-a-boo and making funny faces. He even mimicked the sounds I make to a T! It was quite an adorable scene!
