Toothless

June 15, 2008

One of my favorite things to capture is the loss of teeth! The transition from those adorable baby teeth, to big adult teeth – that never look quite right, when you’re a kid!

Madison has lost the bottom two and top two teeth. The bottom two adult teeth have grown in nicely, the top two on the other hand, are taking their time. Which is great for me…this gave me the opportunity to capture that adorable gap in her smile! Sometimes Maddie would stick her tongue out between her teeth when she was smiling, other times I could just see a big gap. I’m sure the tongue was not on purpose, just an automatic response when you have a huge gap in your mouth.

Combine that adorable toothless smile with all her great freckles, and you have major cuteness!

Giddy with Excitement!

Dana and Micah have been busy making wedding plans for a September wedding in Houston. I had the honor of getting to photograph their engagement session!

Twenty minutes before they arrived for their session, Micah officially proposed and gave Dana a beautiful ring! When they walked in my front door, they were both floating on clouds, smiles as big as could be, excitement and laughter flowed from them. They were giddy! Even as we started their session, they couldn’t help smiling at each other, and laughing…that came natural.

I know Dana’s going to love me for this one, but I have to share anyways! When Dana giggles, her teeth separate just a little bit, and she sticks out her tongue. It’s just TOO cute!

The ABCs of Me!

June 12, 2008

I’ve come across this fun post on a couple of different blogs, so I thought I would give it a whirl. Enjoy!

A is for age: 30, but I don’t feel a day over 29…no really, age has never bothered me, it’s just a number.

B is for burger of choice: I don’t eat red meat, so we’ll have to go with a Ground Turkey Ranch Burger that my husband makes, a recipe he found on a packet of ranch dressing mix.

C is for what kind of car you drive: An adorable black VW bug! With a BAMBAM license plate.

D is for your dog’s name: Joey and Pebbles, of course!

E is for essential item you use everyday: My coffee maker. I would be lost without it!

F is for favorite TV show at the moment: So You Think You Can Dance, those "kids" are amazing, what talent. Last year for my birthday Pete bought me tickets to see the live tour show at the Sprint Center…AWESOME!

G is for favorite game: Cards! Any card game…I love them all! My current love is Nertz!

H is for Hometown: I spent most of my life in Olathe, KS, with a few years in Pennsylvania and Chicago and of course, Lawrence…and now "the country." Where we live now, I don’t claim a town. Our mailing address is Paola (which we are nowhere near), we’re in the Louisburg School District, we have a Bucyrus telephone number and Spring Hill is just over the hill from us. I’m pretty sure they were throwing darts when making decisions on us.

I is for instruments you play: The piano, though I haven’t played in a very long time.

J is for favorite juice: I’m not a big juice person, give me coffee!

K is for whose butt you’d like to kick: I’m a lover not a fighter!

L is for last restaurant you ate at? I don’t eat out very often, so I guess it would have to be Arby’s in Newton, Kansas.

M is for your favorite Muppet: Kermmie of Course. It’s not easy being green.

N is for Number of Piercing: Three. Two in the ears and one in the belly button. Though you will very seldom see me wearing ear rings.

O is for overnight hospital stays: None.

P is for people you were with today: My hubby, Pete. We work together, so it’s hard to get away! And of course, my cuties, Joey & Pebs.

Q is for what you do with your quiet time: Definitely reading and sleeping, though I haven’t been able to find much time for either, lately.

R is for biggest regret: No regrets, everything in life makes you stronger!

S is for status: Status? Crazy!

T is for time you woke up today: 7 AM, that’s pretty normal.

U is for what you consider unique: Me, myself and I.

V is for vegetable you love: I’m not a big veggie person, I wouldn’t say I love any, but I like broccoli and green beans.

W is for worst habit: Biting my nails.

X is for x-rays you’ve had: Hmm, a lot. Three broken bones while growing up.One split chin. A couple of wrist sprains. A chest x-ray. A spine x-ray. An MRI. A CT. A bunch of dental x-rays. A Lot!

Y is for yummy food you ate today: Rice Krispy Treats, my favorite!

Z is for zodiac sign: Scorpio

Tag to anyone who wants to play!

Save the Date!

As you all know, four-legged children are VERY important to me! On Sunday, July 27th, you will have the opportunity to have a cherished portrait created of your four-legged, furry child, while helping out those who don’t have a mommy and daddy.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, July 27th. We will be holding the Helping Paws (One Lick at a Time) event! Watch our blog and your email inbox for details about how you can schedule an appointment to have your dog (or cat) photographed at the studio.

Non-Stop

June 10, 2008

JJ & Jason are wild and crazy guys! JJ is a non-stop talker, and Jason is a non-stop mover! The entire session, JJ talked about polka dots – whether it was green polka dots on underwear or purple polka dots in my hair – he was all about the dots. Jason loves to move, whether it’s jumping, spinning, or running. He’s always on the go, but in the end I was able to get him to freeze to capture adorable images of his cute smile!

Another New Baby

June 8, 2008

Olive, a Shetland Sheep Dog, was welcomed into the family with open arms, as baby number four! Paige, Lucas and Lincoln adore her! They are constantly loving on her, adoring her and paying lots of attention to her! I’m pretty sure, she’s living up to being the youngest child!

She was a little skittish and shy, but as long as she was being held, or loved on by a member of the family, she was content to sit and pose!

Against the Odds

June 7, 2008

Dominic had been having a rough time. A few days before his session, he had to go for his six-month check-up, where he received three shots. Mommy’s pretty sure he’s working on some teeth, which I’m sure does not feel very good. On top of that he is having trouble with eczema all over his body – driving him crazy. He spent a good part of the session scratching his belly, his little hands working back and forth, back and forth. I’m sure it itches like crazy. Despite all this, he gave us some great expressions – cute smiles, serious stares and great giggles!

Blackbob Pet Hospital Portrait Day

June 7, 2008

In honor of the wonderful people at Blackbob Pet Hospital, who take great care of Joey and Pebbles, we sponsored a Pet Portrait Day. Throughout the day, adorable pets of all sizes, ages and breeds walked through our doors, giving me the opportunity to capture their fun loving personalities and great expressions.

At home Shilo & Mallory may be the best of buds…but when it came to photo time, Shilo wanted the camera all to himself! With a little bit of persuasion, and our secret weapon – the ball – we did get them to come together for some adorable images! (Shilo is extremely ball motivated! When we pulled out the ball, he became a different dog. Focused and driven, the ball could not leave his sight!)

Titan & Molly are full of energy, which is expected when you’re only one- and two-years-old. As they drove up our driveway, you could see a couple of heads sticking out of the car windows. They were both very excited to get out of the car and check it all out. With some treat bribes and a few toys to tempt them, they sat and laid down quite nicely! Our two struggles: getting them to put their tongues in their mouths…hanging out a little bit is okay, but seeing the entire tongue hanging out the side of the mouth, though cute, it was just a little too much tongue…and Titan’s ears…when he got excited and jumped up his ears would flip back, looking not quite right.

Morphius gets the award for being the best behaved dog of the day! Of course, that’s what you should expect since he’s trained in police work, search and rescue and dog shows. In addition, he is owned by Vicki, who teaches Joey and Pebbles’ training classes. Though he was being silly, he’d listen to his commands and do as requested, but then he’d give us this look "seriously what are we doing?"

Toby on the other hand, was in full panic mode! He was nervous and shy, and spent quite a bit of time hiding in the corner. With lots of coaxing and praising, we got him out of the corner – now we just had to get him to look at us. Toys, balls, his favorite word "cookie" – none of it worked. With lots of patience and waiting, he finally came around, and gave us some cute expressions.

Silly Goose

June 6, 2008

The day of her portrait session, Davis must have had sugar for lunch! She was silly – hopping like a frog, chirping like a bird, talking a mile a minute and cracking herself up many, many times!

When she gets really excited, Davis gets this cute scrunchy nose smile. Though when she’s serious, those big blue eyes catch the light and sparkle. It doesn’t matter which expression Davis makes, they’re all adorable!

Went to School

June 5, 2008

Earlier this week, my good friend, Chris, and I headed to Newton, Kansas! Where? Newton, Kansas…it’s located between Emporia and Wichita, out in the middle of nowhere!

Bethel College, in Newton, is where Kansas Professional Photographers School is held every year. It’s a one-week program that professional photographers can attend. There are a variety of classes offered to help us keep up on all the advancements in technology, to work on our marketing skills, to work on photography skills and to be inspired.

Chris and I only had enough "free" time to take a “segment one” class, Sunday thru Tuesday. It was a class about the Art and Business of Children’s Photography. I enjoy attending education classes, conventions and seminars like this, because it’s a great way to step out of the day to day tasks of running a business and to be inspired and get new ideas. I always walk away with at least one new idea or thought…which Pete likes to say, always ends up being more work for him!

On Monday night, Chris and I drove around and photographed the small, historic town of Newton.
