Wide Awake

January 30, 2009

As soon as we made Emily naked, and positioned perfectly, her eyes popped open and she was awake. Of course, when she’s awake, she is as squirmy as can be. Her little legs kicking and her little arms swinging.

Though we tried to coax her back to sleep, she just kept fighting and fighting, determined to stay awake. We had to work around the squirming and fussing, but this did give me an opportunity to capture those big eyes!

With all that hair and those big eyes, she looks like a precious little doll.

A Lot in One Weekend

January 29, 2009

You would never have guessed from Matthew’s face that he’d had a busy weekend, he was just as happy as could be! Even though, the day before his session, he had his twelve months shots and the morning of his session, he had his one year birthday party. Luckily, right before his session, he got a really big nap, so he was rested and raring to go!

Last month, Matthew was SO close to walking! He was cruising all around the furniture, completely supporting his own weight. All he had to do was let go. I thought for sure at his one year session we were going to have a runner on our hands…but, nope! He still won’t let go. I know one of these days it’s just going to happen, and he’ll never look back!

I think that nap gave Matthew the energy he needed to demolish his birthday cake beyond recognition! Yes, that is a birthday cake under his leg!

Ask Brandi 1.0

January 25, 2009

This is my first attempt at an “Ask Brandi” blog post. If it is successful, there will be many more!

This is your chance to ask me anything you want! You can ask what my favorite color is, what my favorite Starbucks drink is, what my favorite age to photograph is, what camera I use, etc. Your questions can be as creative as you make them!

Send an email to photos@photographybybrandi.com with “Ask Brandi” in the subject line. I will review the questions submitted, and select the most popular questions. Watch the blog, because I will then do a follow up post with the answers revealed!

Reading! – Edited to Add

January 21, 2009

I love to read fiction books…that is definitely one of my favorite hobbies! Of course, the only time I usually find to read is right after I’ve climbed into bed, before I fall asleep. Seeing as this is usually around 1 or 2 AM, you can imagine how many pages I get through, before my eyes get droopy, and I fall off to la-la land…not very many!

However, this holiday break I discovered the Twilight series! Yes, I’m a little slow. I know it’s been a hit for awhile and the movie has even been out for months.

But it doesn’t matter that I’m behind the times, because I completely fell into the trap of the series. I just can’t put the books down! I am about to start book number four, meaning that between Christmas Day and today, I have read three books! CRAZINESS!

I’m waiting for a friend of mine to finish book number one and then we are headed to see the movie!

Has anyone else read these books? Aren’t they addicting?!?

Edited to Add:
I finished book number four last night, well, really at 2:30 this morning! I’m so bummed that there are no more Bella & Edward books for me to read! Though, I will say, Stephanie Meyer did a really nice job tying up all the loose ends and ending the story.

Twilight the Movie:
I saw Twilight the movie this past weekend. It was good! I think the books are much better, but that, of course, is to be expected. You can put so much more into a book then you could even try to squeeze into a two hour movie. They did do a good job of really following the script of the book, although there were a few variations here and there. For the most part, the movie did a good job at staying true to the book.

Isn’t it funny, though, when you read a book, using the authors descriptions, you can completely picture in your head what the characters look like. Then you see those characters on the big screen and it’s not at all what you pictured in your head. This wasn’t the case for every character, but it was for a few of them.

I can’t wait for the rest of the movies to come out, to see how they will adapt, and turn into movies, such crazy story lines!

Brothers

January 18, 2009

Brothers can be a lot of fun to photograph, but I always have to remember to be careful. Giving instructions like tickling or looking at each other, can result in some serious roughhousing and wrestling.

These three brothers came all the way from Wisconsin so that I could photograph them! What an awesome compliment!

I had a great time getting to know their family and laughed frequently at and with the brothers as the egged each other on, always trying to one up each other. When you start talking about stinky feet or chicken legs or even whether or not they have girlfriends, the brother you’re not talking about is always willing to pipe in with his thoughts and opinions

Bringing the Cold Air

January 16, 2009

Miss Adele came down from Minnesota to see me for her one year session. Unfortunately, she brought the cold air with her. On the day of her session, it was a whopping ten degrees outside! However, her smile and personality were not affected by the cold temperatures. (I guess she’s used to those Minnesota winters, being born in the middle of one!)

She has the most entertaining giggle. When she gets going it doesn’t stop. It’s a very petite, almost high pitched giggle. It really made me laugh, which makes her giggle more…which results in adorable images!

I just LOVE her big lip!

Blue Skies in Phoenix

January 16, 2009

Though I spent most of my time inside, attending classes at the Professional Photographers of America’s National Convention, I did get to enjoy some of the beautiful Phoenix weather. To be a meteorologist in Phoenix has to be one the easiest jobs. The highs were right around 75 degrees and the lows around 45 degrees every day.

They have a brand new convention center and downtown area that we got to walk around every day. Our hotel was just a short walk from the convention center, and if we wanted, to we could jump on the Metro Light Rail. One day, we even took the Light Rail out to Tempe for dinner.

As always I had a fun time and came back with some ideas that I will need to figure out how to implement!

I AM Famous!

January 15, 2009

After being in Phoenix for two and half days, you can imagine my surprise when I walk out the back side of the convention center, looking for a place to eat, and right across the street I see this!

For those of you who don’t know…that is my last name! That’s right…a bar and grill named after ME!

Okay, so it’s not really named after me. My husband and I actually knew that this restaurant existed in Phoenix, but we had completely forgotten about it, until I stumbled up on it. There used to be a Phoenix Suns basketball player by the name of Dan Majerle (pronounced Marley). He opened up a couple of restaurants in and around the Phoenix area. I’ve heard my last name pronounced Marley many times, especially from guys, but down in Phoenix that is how it was pronounced every single time.

We of course had to go eat dinner there! It was actually really good food. The experience would not have been perfect without the purchase of some Majerle paraphernalia!
