Still In Love

May 31, 2009

Shawna and Jeff celebrated their ten year anniversary at the end of last year! That doesn’t mean their love is gone or even less. I would actually say they love each other more today than they did ten years ago. It is demonstrated in the way they act with each other. They’re just very comfortable and natural together, much like putting on a well fitting glove. They completely fit together and complement each other.

Jeff is absolutely enamored by his wife, which is so awesome to see! This is, of course, how we were able to twist his arm and get him out for a session. The chance to snuggle up and kiss his wife…he wouldn’t turn that down!

Guess Who’s Turning Three?!?

May 30, 2009

Yep, that’s right, it’s Miss Pebbles!!

Over the last few months, we’ve seen Pebbles mellow out a little bit. Based on my experience with Joey, between ages three and four, he really mellowed out and become less of a puppy and more of a calm, trustworthy, young adult. We have been slowly able to trust Pebbles on her own. The rule used to be, if you can’t see her, then she’s getting into trouble. Now it’s, if you can’t see her, she’s probably hanging out at her top of the stairs perch, where she can monitor the comings and goings of everyone.

I’m excited to see what this year has in store for Pebs and us!

Clingy!

May 29, 2009

Blaise would have been perfectly content to sit with mommy for his entire one year session! He’s definitely a momma’s boy! When she was holding him, or he was sitting on her lap, he was all giggles and grins. When we tried to have him sit on his own, he was serious and sad. So needless to say, there was a lot of creative thinking and strategizing during the session! Regardless, some of my favorites are his really serious ones, because his eyes are just SO big and SO expressive!

Roly Poly!

May 27, 2009

I absolutely love chunky babies! They are just so much fun to squeeze and their rolls just make me smile and laugh! Felix takes the cake as one of my chunkiest babies recently! He had rolls everywhere – arms, ankles, thighs, back – it was awesome!!

Of course, the best part is his complete laid back personality! Felix just likes to hang out and chill! He’s full of great expressions, from the open mouth smiles to the BIG open mouth smiles, not to mention the stare you down “what are you doing” looks!

Over the Years

May 27, 2009

Recently, I have written a couple of posts about how I have photographed these kiddos over the years. I thought it would be fun to actually see how they have changed between each session!

Wow! Where does the time go?

Maddie 2 1/2 Years to 8 Years

Kenzie 2 1/2 Weeks to 4 Years

One Year!

May 26, 2009

Through the months of April & May, I have purchased eight one year birthday cakes! I’ve had cake on the floor, cake on the wall, cake on me – pretty much anywhere you can think of, there has been cake!

I love doing the birthday cake at age one, because every kid reacts completely different. Sometimes they gobble it up, sometimes they are very serious and methodical, sometimes they destroy it without ever eating a bite and sometimes they want nothing to do with it!

Jack fell into the last category. He stuck his hands in it and found it to be very interesting. He gradually brought his hand up to his mouth and tried some frosting…which he immediately tried to spit out. He was not a fan! We tried to get him to eat a little bit more, and little by little he would try some, but it just wasn’t for him!

Not to worry, before we brought out the birthday cake, he had been hamming it up for the camera! Living the good life of being a model!! He was showing off his new walking skills, and talking it up with those two little teeth of his!

Talkative!

May 20, 2009

This was Kenzie’s four year session, and it was the twelfth session I’ve done with her. I’ve had the honor of photographing Kenzie since she was a little bitty newborn baby.

By far, this was her most talkative session. Usually Kenzie is pretty reserved and quiet. Not this time! She told me about her princess birthday cake, playing firefighters with her brother, playing trains with her friend from school, that her favorite color is pink AND purple and on and on! My favorite part was when she told me I was silly! I love playing the “no you’re silly” game back and forth. I got some great smiles just from that!

The night after Kenzie’s session, I received a great message from her mom. I just had to share, because it was too adorable not to! “I forgot to tell you today, that Kenzie has turned into quite the little photographer within the last couple of weeks. (In fact, we got her a Princess digital camera for her B-Day). This afternoon, she has been very Brandiesque…posing her little brother & me & telling us what gestures & faces to make! She really enjoyed her session with you! We may have a little Brandi in the making. Her pics are actually quite good!”

Eight Years Old!

May 15, 2009

The first time I photographed Madison, she was two and half. This year, she’s turning eight! Where does the time go? She’s definitely growing up, but she’s still that same sweet, talkative, sometimes crazy, little lady!

This year, I asked her about boys. Not to worry mom, she still thinks boys are icky – and, for that matter, there are no cute ones in her class or school!

I asked her what she wants to be when she grows up. She told me she wants to be an author. We talked about what type of author – definitely a children’s author. She loves humor in her books! She’s already written several short stories for school this year. She even gave me the short version of The Pen story. I was definitely impressed with her creativity!

When she started talking about polygons and rhombuses, I think my jaw almost dropped. She was just rattling off these shape names like it was no big deal. I’m not sure I even remember what most of them are anymore!

I think I’m going to have to start studying if I’m going to be able to keep up with her in the coming years!
