Four Completely Different People

June 30, 2009

When you really pause to think about it, it is very amazing that, as we grow up in the same household as our siblings, and we go through similar experiences yet we all turn out different. We want different things out of life, we have different passions and we go pursue different careers. We are each unique!

Sure, we will have some similarities, and there’s always , family ties that keep us together, but, all in all, we grow up and become our own person.

It will be interesting to see how this family of four grows and changes! Elliott and Thomas are starting to come into their own. Whereas Kate and August are still a little young.

Elliott is the oldest, and as typical for the oldest, he’s a people pleaser. He can laugh and have a good time, but he can also be quiet, reserved and obedient.

Thomas is the second and he is a prankster! I think sometimes he feels like he has to work for the attention, and he’s found a comedic side that is a great attention getter!

Kate has the challenge of being the only girl with three rough and tumble brothers. So, while she’s Mommy’s princess, she can still hold her own with those boys!

Last but not least is August! It will be fun to watch him grow and change. Right now, he’s in the phase where he’s trying to establish his place within the family. He’s the youngest and the littlest, but he’s not going to take it from anyone!

Just Breckenridge

Then there are the images that don’t necessarily have a story, I just have to share them!

Okay, I suppose the sunset ones have a story. Pete was getting ready to put salmon on the grill and I was taking the pups potty before we sat down for dinner. I turned the corner of the house and saw what I knew had to be a beautiful sunset through the trees. From our house, we didn’t have a great view of the setting sun, there were just too many trees in the way. So I ran back inside, said “Don’t turn on the grill yet, lock the door, we’ve got to go!” We jumped in the car and actually ended up only driving about two blocks. The perfect view was just ahead, a beautiful, colorful sunset sky silhouetting the majestic mountains. It was totally worth it, because we never saw another sky like that!

Lake County, Colorado

June 29, 2009

We packed up our car for a short drive to Lake County, Colorado. Lake County is home to Leadville, Colorado, the highest incorporated city in the United States, at an elevation of 10,152 feet. You’ll notice that my hubby is Lake County’s web site designer!

The drive up into the mountains was beautiful! Trees, mountains, lakes, wilderness and even some snow as far as the eye could see. Pete was sure to announce to me when we reached the point that there was snow actually on the ground at the same elevation we were! Luckily, I remembered to bring my jacket.

Once in Leadville, we toured the town, found the beautiful Turquoise Lake, headed up the mountain to check out the old silver and gold mining areas, met Pete’s clients and had a nice lunch with them at their restaurant, the Golden Burro Cafe.

After seeing the rain clouds roll in again, Barbara informed me that, during the month of June, it rains every afternoon! Of course, it does! We made it back to the apartment, just in time to release the dogs from their kennels before the thunder started and they started freaking out!

Frisco

June 28, 2009

Another beautiful day in the mountains! The day started out with gorgeous blue skies and big puffy clouds.

There’s a paved bike path, that takes you to Frisco, about 8-10 miles away from Breckenridge. Pete, the dogs and I went to the local bike shop to rent two bikes and a pull behind cart. Yep, that’s right, the pups got to go bike riding with us! They sat in the cart while Pete pulled them. After figuring out how to safely strap them down, they just sat and enjoyed the breeze and the mountain views. Pebs did start to whine when Pete went too slow…it was actually pretty funny!

Again, we quickly discovered, the trip leaving Breckenridge was not a problem. The eight miles back to Breckenridge – not fun! It was completely uphill the entire time! There was no coasting, it was all pedaling. I think we must be cursed, because the rain came out again. Although it was hard work, we had an awesome time, but we were more than ready to put our feet up and relax for the rest of the afternoon.

Even Joey and Pebs crashed and burned…which is funny since they didn’t do any of the work!

Breckenridge

June 26, 2009

Our goal, for this vacation, was simply to put our feet up, relax and enjoy ourselves. Which is exactly what we did!

Our apartment was just about a mile from downtown. On our first day in Breckenridge, we leashed up the pups and walked down the hill (the going home part wasn’t quite as much fun!) We walked all the way through downtown back up into the mountains for a short one mile hike. As you might expect, on our way back through downtown, we found the Starbucks and chilled for awhile!

After a relaxing afternoon, we headed out for an evening run. We quickly discovered that the two mile jog, we had planned, away from Breckinridge was a nice slight downhill slope. This meant that the two mile run back was not going to be oh so pleasant! Boy were we right. Not only did we have to run uphill the entire way back, but now we were running into the wind. To add to the fun, a little rain came out of nowhere, pelting our faces as we ran. I guess we were asking for an adventure, and we got it!

Not that you want to hear every detail of our trip, but I do have to share this minor detail! We ended the night with a competitive game of Scrabble. If you don’t know my husband, then I have to tell you, normally he would win hands down. He’s always my go to guy when I need to know how to spell a word, or what a big word means. BUT, that night I whipped him! He was playing words like toy and no, while I was playing words like vivid and rakes.

Ten Years, Where Does the Time Go?

June 25, 2009

Pete and I are celebrating our ten year anniversary on June 26th! Ten years…that’s almost a third of my life. Add to that the fact that we dated for four and a half years before getting married…that’s almost half of my life! I couldn’t imagine it any other way!

To celebrate, we rented an over the garage apartment in Breckenridge, Colorado. We packed up the car and Joey and Pebbles for the eleven hour drive. After looking up the temperatures on weather.com, I was afraid we were going to be in for a cold snap. I was pleasantly surprised, as 60 degrees in the mountains, with bright sun and no wind, is very enjoyable. I’m not so sure about the 40 degree temperatures at night, but that’s what the indoors is for!

Before & After

June 23, 2009

After a weekend at the lake, and two weeks of pottying in off and on rain, Joey and Pebbles were in dire need of a trip to the spa! Pebs was such a mess…I felt like a quick before and after photo shoot was a must!

It doesn’t matter if they have crazy hair or nice clean hair, they are the cutest puppies I know!

Lake Weekend

June 22, 2009

I just realized that I never shared my lake weekend photos with you! A couple of weekends ago, Pete, Joey, Pebbles and I headed to Pomme de Terre Lake in Missouri. Our friends have a lake house that they visit at least a couple of weekends a month throughout the summer.

This was just the second time we’ve been able to join them. Weekends are not the easiest time for me to get away, especially since I’m usually working on Saturdays.

What an awesome weekend it was! The temperatures were perfect. The sun was bright and warm. We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend!

I took my new lens (the fisheye) with me and had some fun! I don’t get to do that very often, which makes it even more fun to play!

Boys Will Be Boys

June 17, 2009

Thank goodness Dominic is slowed down a little bit by his height! He wasn’t quite able to climb on my stool or chair by himself.

Of course, once we helped him up there, he had not a care in the world about falling off or tumbling over! He actually stood up in the chair and started bouncing! Not to worry, daddy was close by, ready to catch! That certainly didn’t stop me from being nervous. He was just throwing himself around, sitting on the edge of the chair, turning in circles on the stool, dancing on the step stool, completely unaware that the edge was right there and he was inches away from falling.

In line with his crazy boy shenanigans, the more dangerous he was, the more he smiled!
