Lake County, Colorado

We packed up our car for a short drive to Lake County, Colorado. Lake County is home to Leadville, Colorado, the highest incorporated city in the United States, at an elevation of 10,152 feet. You’ll notice that my hubby is Lake County’s web site designer!

The drive up into the mountains was beautiful! Trees, mountains, lakes, wilderness and even some snow as far as the eye could see. Pete was sure to announce to me when we reached the point that there was snow actually on the ground at the same elevation we were! Luckily, I remembered to bring my jacket.

Once in Leadville, we toured the town, found the beautiful Turquoise Lake, headed up the mountain to check out the old silver and gold mining areas, met Pete’s clients and had a nice lunch with them at their restaurant, the Golden Burro Cafe.

After seeing the rain clouds roll in again, Barbara informed me that, during the month of June, it rains every afternoon! Of course, it does! We made it back to the apartment, just in time to release the dogs from their kennels before the thunder started and they started freaking out!
