Supporting the Economy
This year, Pete and I are wasting no time, jumping in with our support of the economy. Unfortunately, I can’t say that our support has been in purchasing really fun things…more towards purchasing things that help us function better!
A Generator to run the house for those crazy days when we lose power. Three and a half years of living in the country has taught me that when you lose power it can be on average three to eight hours before it comes back on. When the loss of power occurred in the middle of an ordering appointment for the second time, I knew it was time to do something big!

A Propane Tank to run the generator. There are no gas lines out here, so our entire house runs off of electricity. That can be a problem, but, hopefully not anymore!

A Three Zone Heating and Air System to address the ridiculously drastic hot and cold temperatures of our office and the studio. The studio, with all of it’s windows, has a tendency to get pretty warm during sessions. With my lights putting out heat, my windows inviting in the warm summer sun and the running around of myself, the kids and parents…there can be some sweating going on! Our office space is located on the second floor, half way over the garage, with five to six computers running at once, it has been known to be more of a sauna than an office. In the past, to keep these rooms cool, we have had to crank the thermostat really low, which of course causes the rest of the house to be freezing! But no more, now the office has it’s own thermostat, the studio has it’s own thermostat and the system will only send air to the rooms that need it!

A Background Roller System for managing all of my crazy backgrounds. In the past, my backgrounds have been on a track, which was not the smoothest. Sometimes the wheels would get stuck in the tracks. I also had to deal with bad fold lines when I folded the backgrounds to store them. Changing out a background in the middle of a session was always a hassle! Now, I can just roll up and down with the press of a button! No fold lines and not too many wrinkles. We’re still trying to figure out how to make it perfect, but slowly, slowly I’m getting the hang of it.

My one fun big purchase…a Wide Angle Lens for my camera! I rented one a year ago for my sister’s wedding in Jamaica and it was so much fun. It’s totally not a practical purchase for my business. I wouldn’t really use it to take portraits as the distortion that it creates is a little wild. But for landscapes and commercial photographs it’s a ton of fun!
These test images of Pebbles and Joey crack me up!

I think we’ve officially done our part for the economy! We’ve maxed out our payment plan options and are just waiting for those bills to start rolling in!
