A New Home

October 16, 2009

In August, Max left China with his new Mommy, Daddy, Grandma and big sister to come to his new home here in KC. Mommy says he’s adjusted very well! He’s jumped right in to learning sign language and basic words. He and his big sister are just like siblings, sometimes they love each other and sometimes they drive each other crazy!

He was full of expressions and personality the day of his session. He gave me serious, contemplative, smiley, excited, upset and even some attitude!

Step Up for Down Syndrome

October 16, 2009

Last chance! There’s just one week left before the Step Up for Down Syndrome walk! We’re so close to our goal, any support you can give to not only reach our goal, but blow it out of the water would be greatly appreciated!

Not only will you be supporting all of our adorable clients, but you will be supporting an awesome local organization, the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City (DSG).

The Step Up for Down Syndrome walk promotes acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and recognition of their many gifts, talents and contributions to society. All funds raised at the walk stay in the Kansas City area, and benefit the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City.

This year Pete and I have created our own team, and we even have some awesome peeps walking with us! The walk is a one mile walk around Kauffman and Arrowhead Stadiums this coming Saturday, October 24th.

You can help us reach our goal by clicking here. THANKS!!

What’s a Rooster Say?

October 15, 2009

Jackson may only be two, but he’s got his colors and his animal sounds down. He can tell you what he had for lunch, and if you point at something, he can tell you what it is. He’s in love with his truck and trains, and will tell you all about them. All in all, he can keep you entertained for hours.

My favorite thing he did during his session was his cock-a-doddle-do. Daddy said, “Jackson, what’s a rooster say?” and out he belts with this perfect cock-a-doodle-do! It was hilarious, and sounded SO real!

Jackson was all about flashing his adorable smile and big blue eyes my way!

Cat Got Their Tongues

October 15, 2009

Kids can be so funny! At certain ages, all of a sudden, they lose the ability to answer you when you ask them questions. Or, my favorite, is when they answer you, but they do it while keeping their teeth clenched together in a forced smile.

That’s how Lauren & Ann’s session started. We were hanging out, talking, and then all of a sudden, the camera came up to my eye. Ann lost her voice and Lauren’s mouth permanently closed! It’s so funny to me, because every kid does this!

After some warm up time and the removal of Mom & Dad from the room, both girls came completely out of their shells! Ann started talking up a storm and telling me about everything from their summer trip to her favorite food. Lauren started striking poses and flashing me those big beautiful teethy smiles!

Boys Will Be Boys

October 13, 2009

There comes a stage in a boy’s life where everything they want to talk about revolves around gross things. Boogers, farting, burping, dirty diapers, and lots of other unnamed disgusting items! This stage always cracks me up. The things that they come up with…I don’t know where they come from.

Kaden is at that stage. He and I were talking about farting, when all of a sudden, his Mommy burst out with, “oh my, Brandi just farted!” Kaden thought this was the funniest thing he had every heard. I actually think he was laughing so hard, that he wasn’t breathing. He face was turning red and his laugh was almost silent!

Manhattan Travelers

October 10, 2009

Sophia, Isabella and their sister Nadia all travel to me from the purple town of Manhattan, Kansas for their portrait sessions! Each session varies on who I get to photograph, depending on whose birthdays or major milestones are the closest. This time we were featuring Sophia’s fifth birthday and Isabella being six months…and sitting up like a champ!

I have been photographing all three girls since they were a newborns. It has been so much fun, and a blessing, to get to watch and capture these sassy ladies grow and change over the years.

I can’t believe Sophia turned five this year! One more year, and she’ll be starting Kindergarten! That is just too crazy to me. Even crazier is just how grown up she acts. She told me all about her purple purse, and everything that is packed in it, just in case. (Not to worry, Sophia will have fresh breath anywhere she goes!)

Isabella has packed on some pounds since I saw her last, and I love every one of those pounds! I’m loving the big belly and the chunky thighs, and that adorable round face with those big blue eyes. Then there’s the one thing all three girls have shared, the crazy dark hair! They all came out with full heads of hair and it just keeps growing and growing! Isabella is proving to be no different!

Related?!?

October 8, 2009

It’s fun working with siblings and seeing how much they look like each other, or don’t look like each other. My sister and I are a perfect example. We don’t look anything alike. When you dissect our faces, you can see that there’s nothing we share, from the shape of our face to the shape of our eyes to even our smiles!

Emily & Brady have their differences, some of which are very obvious, but they also have their similarities! Emily is a tan, golden child. She’s always looked like she had a nice tan, but moving to Florida has just deepened that tan. Brady is a pale little man, white as can be! (Emily takes after her Daddy, whereas Brady takes after his Mommy) Of course, they both have those big, beautiful, expressive blue eyes! It will be fun to see how Brady changes over the years, and whether he grows up looking more or less like Emily.

One thing is for sure, Brady adores Emily! Emily can make Brady laugh like nothing else! She just jumps around, makes silly faces, shakes her booty…Brady’s arms start winding up, his tongue comes out and he giggles right at her!

Snuggle Bugg

October 7, 2009

Olivia’s favorite position is curled into a little ball, laying on Mommy’s chest or up at her shoulder. So, of course, we had to start her off on her belly. You could tell she just loved it! At one point, she curled up into a snug little ball. It was adorable! As Mom stated, that’s probably what she looked like in the womb just a few days ago! All in all, Olivia was a rock star, working the cuteness factor!

So Excited!

October 2, 2009

Gabriella jumped out of the car and immediately told me she was coming to my house to get her picture taken! She was so excited! I couldn’t catch most of what she was saying, because she was talking so fast it all blended together, but I could definitely read her excitement level!

Even before Mommy could get in the house and settled, Gabriella was taking off her shoes and socks. Even her dress came off and the pretty dress was off the hanger. She was ready!

Once I brought out the camera, it was no different, she was performing – smiling, laughing, giggling!

Cake Eater?

October 1, 2009

At AJ’s one year session, he started off working the camera. He was all about flashing those big blue eyes and that great open mouth smile…then we brought out the birthday cake!

I think AJ takes the prize for being the slowest birthday cake eater I have ever had! He would get icing on his right thumb and he would lick that thumb over and over again. There was no digging in and going crazy. It was little bites here and there and lots of icing on the thumbs!

My favorite part…every once in a while he would get this sugar jolt! His whole body would kind of shiver, his face would scrunch up, he’d do this hacking move and then he’d bust out with a smile! It made me laugh, every time!
