Off to College
To celebrate the baby of the family heading off to college, Mom arranged a portrait session for brother, David, and sister, Kelly. I can’t think of a better reason to have a session done!
That’s one thing we frequently tend to forget. We’re so good about having our kids portraits made when they’re young and growing by leaps and bounds, but as they get older we tend to taper off or put it on the back burner all together. It’s so important not to forget this time! It’s a time of discovery! It’s a time of growth for everyone, not just the kids, but the parents, too!
Thanks for a fun session, David and Kelly! I wish you both lots of luck this coming year!

Boys Will Be Boys
Evan has no fear! He climbs on anything he can find, lets go with no hands and sometimes even throws a little jump in there. More than once during his 18 month session my heart jumped up as I watched him teeter on the edge of the ladder or the chair…BUT never once did he fall. He’s pretty good about catching himself and knowing right where the limit is.
Though, I’m sure there will be many bumps and bruises during his childhood, I can say that we survived his session with nothing but smiles, smirks and a minor tantrum.

Exhausted After A Long Day At The Links!

Hail to the Internet
You don’t realize just how many things you accomplish with the aide of the internet, until it’s gone. We spent more than 24 hours across Friday/Saturday and Sunday without access to the internet.
When they told us that our internet was going to be down until Tuesday or Wednesday, there was a brief moment of complete panic. Without the internet, I can’t place orders, I can’t upload posts to my blog, I can’t check the weather report, I can’t upload pics to facebook, I can’t check and respond to my emails, I can’t upload online slide shows…it’s just down right disastrous!
Thank goodness I have a technically savvy husband. With the purchase of the Verizon Wireless MiFi, Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, I am again plugged in!
It’s by no means perfect. My multiple computers are usually linked to each other and everyone shares a Shared Drive that holds all of our documents. None of this is working, because of course, it all works over the home network that I can’t access at the same time as the Verizon Wireless MiFi. I’m hoping that technical savvy guy of mine can figure something out. In the meantime, at least I don’t feel lost and confused anymore!
Curious
That’s the word I would use to describe Ella at her one year session…she’s very curious…about everything! At first, she wasn’t so sure about my shag rug. She walked around it, eyeballing it and taking it in. Finally, with some help from Daddy, she stepped on. Then there was checking out the back of the background, she was very interested in what was going on there. We even kept her interest with a little piece of string. It didn’t matter what it was, Ella had to make sure she checked it out thoroughly before moving on.

No, Thank You
Avery’s one year session was very entertaining!
She was on the move! We’d place her in a spot and she’d be off and crawling. We’d let her stand, while holding on to something, and she would start walking away. She just didn’t want to hold still, and she was not fooled by our antics and distractions. She’d pause just long enough to flash us some adorable expressions and then she was off!
Then we put the cake in front of her. I think she spent five minutes just sitting there staring at it! All of a sudden, she wasn’t moving, but she also wasn’t performing. That cake had her stumped! Mommy helped out and gave her a bite or two, but by bite number two she was shaking her head “no”. It didn’t matter how many times Mommy tried to offer her a bite, the answer was always the same…a shake of the head and a “no, thank you”! Of course, she didn’t hold still for long and before we knew it there was cake everywhere! She sat on it, she smeared it, she flung it…she just didn’t eat it!

A Blur
To truly show you what Lila’s session was like, I would just have to show you an image of a big blur! I don’t think two year old Lila stopped to take a breath once! She was jumping, dancing, running, rolling, climbing…it didn’t matter as long as she was moving!
I am so completely jealous of all the energy! Where does it come from? I would love to have even a quarter of it! Not to mention, the extreme happiness that goes along with it. As long as we weren’t distracting her, and just letting Lila be Lila, she was all grins and smiles, so happy to be full speed ahead!

To Each Their Own
It always amazes me how maternity bellies can be so many different shapes and sizes; from the tiny basketball under the shirt, to the, “Are you sure you’re not caring twins?” belly! It’s just amazing how very unique every woman is when it comes to pregnancy and their bellies. You have the women who get the line down the middle, you have some belly buttons that completely pop out and you have round bellies and oblong bellies. Everyone is unique and different.
It doesn’t matter how many bellies I photograph, each and every one of them has their own characteristics. Baby Landon’s belly is no different. Baby Landon has insisted on hanging out on the right side of Mommy’s belly, causing the right side of Mommy’s belly to be more round than the left side. Silly baby! You know there’d be more room in that tiny belly if you were to spread out!

Portrait Day!
You can find Photography by Brandi portrait art around Kansas City in a variety of locations. One of the largest displays we have is at the Women’s Health Associates office in Shawnee Mission.
Women’s Health Associates is Kansas City’s leading all-female OB/GYN medical practice. Our portrait art decorates the walls of their lobby and exam rooms. Many of our clients, who also happen to be patients, hang in the lobby and hallways. The children and grandchildren of the doctors, nurses and office staff, fill the exam rooms.
This summer seemed like the perfect time to give those exam rooms an update! So, a couple of weeks ago, we invited all those kiddos out to the studio for mini sessions! It was whirlwind of a day in every way…including a massive storm that blew in and blew out right in the middle of the day! But it didn’t matter, we had tons of fun!
I loved getting to see how much all the kiddos had grown and changed since the last Portrait Day. Not to mention, getting to meet the new kiddos and families who participated this year. We laughed, giggled and smiled all day!
I can’t wait to put the new art up on the walls!

Bowling Success!
Last night, Pete and I went bowling with some friends. I wouldn’t ever say that I’m an outstanding bowler, by any means. I can consistently get a score over 100, but that’s about the extent of my success.
My chi must have been aligned last night, because the very first game we played, I rocked! I don’t think I’ve ever had that many strikes in one game, and I certainly have never had that high of a score. Not to mention, I beat Pete…that seldom happens!
So, it’s not an amazing 200+ score, but for me, a 174, is pretty monumental!

Loving to Laugh!
Right away, I was mesmerized by Bethany’s beautiful eyes, framed perfectly by long lashes. They just drew you in! Then she smiled, and I quickly realized it wasn’t just those eyes that drew you in, but it was her smile and laugh that made you want to join right in!
The best part about photographing Bethany was just how easy it was to get her to smile and laugh! I can definitely tell she lives to enjoy life!
