Being Thankful!

November 25, 2010

Yesterday, I received a very sweet compliment from a client. It wasn’t something she went out of her way to say, or tried to make into a big deal. It was just a comment that came straight from her heart…and it moved me to tears! Happy tears, of course!

This time of year, I always feel like I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off, trying to accomplish more than time allows. It’s easy to forget that, during all the chaos of the holidays, I am doing something I love, cherish and believe in!

It is so important to me that we are capturing those family and childhood memories forever! I can’t think of anything better than documenting the growth, change and love of family!

I am beyond thankful that I am able to do just that, and that I actually get to call it my job!

At two and a half, not surprisingly, Tanner has a mind of his own. He was totally okay with cooperating for family photos for a couple of minutes, but as soon as we went to make a change, he decided that he was done! He was ready to leave. He wanted to see the cows and the horses, anything but have his photo taken.

It took some bribing, and some pleading, and some game playing, but we got through it! Whether he wanted to or not, we captured family, individuals and even some Cowboy Tanner!

Nice try, Tanner! Even if you think you run the show, the truth is, “You’re not done until we say you’re done!”

Whether He Wanted To Or Not

November 23, 2010

Recently, Carter has decided that getting his photo taken is not something he enjoys. Whether it’s just Mom trying to take a snapshot here and there or even the idea of coming to see me, he is not interested. I think it was a pretty stressful morning for Mommy and Daddy as they prepared to bring Carter to his holiday session.

Of course, wouldn’t you know it, as soon as we had Carter dressed, and in the studio with me one on one, he was ready to smile and laugh! I’m sure it helped that we talked about gross boy things like boogers and farting, but if it puts a smile on his face, then I’m all about it!

Whether he wanted to or not, Carter had a blast getting his photo taken and I’ve got the proof!

Entertaining Expressions

November 22, 2010

Reid is a very happy baby! For the most part, he is content to go with the flow and just hang out. He’s very inquisitive and spends a lot of time looking around and checking things out.

Nothing makes him happier then when you interact and play with him. He starts talking and smiling and just keeps getting more and more excited.

When Reid gets super excited, one of two expressions pops out. He will show us the “I’m catching flies, open mouth smile” and the “I smell rotten food, scrunch up my nose smile”. Both smiles just crack me up! They are just so expressive and say so much without saying a word.

Making Us Work

November 22, 2010

Olivia wanted to make sure she was getting her money’s worth! She made Mommy, Daddy and I work hard for her seven month session. When we weren’t wiping the constant flow of drool from her mouth, we were cleaning up the pee that she so generously shared with us. If we weren’t doing that, then we were acting like crazy fools, singing and making weird noises to keep her attention.

Wouldn’t you just love to be able to hear what babies think?!? Sometimes, I could swear they give me that look that just says, “You are one crazy lady!” No worries, Miss Olivia, I’m crazy for everybody!

Brave or Crazy!?!

November 21, 2010

Are we brave or crazy for attempting to photograph a three year old, a one year old and an eight month old all at the same time in the same photo?!? I think, maybe a little of both!

Any one would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during that session. More than once, we had Caroline (eight months) going one way, Charlie (one year) going the other way and Johnny (three years) laying on his back! There are moments when you stop to take a breath and you just have to laugh at the absolute craziness of it all! But then, you pull them all back together and start again!

Craziness and all, we made it work! Not only did we get all three of them together, but we even got some personality filled individual images to go right along with the group!

These two squirts were full of energy the morning of their session! It was happy energy, but it was boundless!

I really did feel like I was on a movie set. Daddy would put Brendan in place, Taryn would be ready to go, there’d be a momentary pause and then it was like someone said “Action!” and off they went!

Add to that, Taryn’s very truthful remarks, fabulous story telling abilities and Brendan’s crazy, big smiles and we had a fun, but crazy, morning!

Old Man Face

November 18, 2010

Noah is a super smiley, happy baby! Even the cold he had didn’t stop his smiles from coming out at his seven month session.

However, also making an appearance at his session, was what I affectionately nicknamed his old man face. I’m sure it has a lot to do with the two new pearly whites, but he sucks in his lip making them disappear and resulting in a very entertaining expression!

A Curve Ball

November 18, 2010

I guess I should have expected to be thrown a curve ball…everything was going so well. It was a beautiful day! The temps were in the mid 70s, the sun was shining, the leaves were falling off the trees, the wind was as still as could be.

And the family…well, they were dressed fabulously in reds and browns, hair was done well and three of them were great listeners, smilers and participators. The fourth…that was my curve ball!

Evan wanted nothing to do with family photo day! If Mommy or Daddy tried to sit with him, he’d go limp noodle and slide to the ground. If we asked him to climb on the bench, he’d shake his head no and run away. If we asked him to hold sissy’s hand, he’d insist on also holding Mommy’s hand at the same time.

We moved around, we walked around and we mixed up the combinations, trying anything we could to make sure Evan was at least in the family photo!

Lily and Ava have always been a blast to photograph! They’re always excited to see me, and full of smiles and adorable expressions. This year, however, they seemed to have caught a case of the giggles! They could not stop laughing…and everything I said was extremely hilarious…which I know can not be true!

The best part is when you get Lily laughing really hard…she actually starts to snort! Sometimes, I wonder if she’s making it happen, but then sometimes, you can tell it just happened! This huge, loud, deep snort coming out of this adorable tiny girl…hilarious!
