We Wore Them Out

September 25, 2013

By the time we called wrap on Karma and Kismet’s session, they were exhausted and done! They had smiled, sat, laid down, tilted their heads, perked their ears, given Mommy kisses, heard my squeaky noise a million times and drooled for treats. They were officially worn out!

Karma was adorable at the end. He laid his head down on the ground and refused to lift it back up. He’d lift his eyes and his eyebrows at me, but I could tell he was saying, “No more please”.

Kismet, on the other hand, looked like she was going to fall asleep sitting up. Her eyelids kept getting that heavy, half-closed look and she just stared at me. She didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to charm the camera, but she was also just exhausted!

It was worth every minute that led to two very tired pups!

Smiles, Ears & Tongues

September 24, 2013

Stedman and Lilly only have eyes for their Momma! I think if Lilly could spend her entire day sitting in her Mom’s arms, in her book, that would be the perfect day! And Stedman, he just wants to be close by. He’s willing to let Lilly have the sweet spot, as long as he’s in the vicinity.

Getting them out of Mom’s arms and ready to pose for the camera was the challenge…but we worked through it and captured smiles, perky ears and head tilts!

A New Addition

September 19, 2013

The T Family has added a member since the last time I photographed them. She’s four legged and very beautiful! Of course, she was also only about three months old at the time of their portrait session…and has plenty of growing left to do!

Her older sisters, Sandy & Rizzo, showed their stuff…staring right at the camera, working their angles. I’m thinking any time those tiny tots can show the new big girl what’s what, they will do just that!

Poor Daddy, as if he wasn’t already outnumbered…just one more beautiful lady to love!

Join Our Team!

September 17, 2013

This year will likely be the last year for the Photography by Brandi Team at the annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk, and I am hoping to make it our best! To do this, I need all of your help and support! Join the Photography by Brandi team and walk with us. It’s an amazing day, and definitely worthwhile!

This year’s walk, with lots of pre-walk festivities, will take place the morning of Saturday, October 26th! Just three days before my birthday. There must be something about my birthday and the walk…they just go together!

The deadline to have the Photography by Brandi team name printed on your t-shirt is September 27th, so join my team today!! Click the Join Photography by Brandi link.

It’s the perfect event for kids, babies and adults of every age! Not only is the walk the easiest, low key stroll you’ve ever taken, but the food and activities beforehand are awesome!
- TONS of food: including fried chicken, kettle corn, smoothies, ice cream, cupcakes and even coffee for crazy peeps like me!
- Games for all the kids (big and small): Jumps and slide moon bouncers, rock climbing wall, carnival rides and games, horseback rides.
- Entertainment: roaming clowns, magicians, stilt walkers and stage performances including music and dancing. Also, new this year is a dance party tent!
- Chiefs football players signing autographs and cheering everyone on at the start line! KC Wolf giving hugs and posing for party pics.
- Thousands of friends (old and new) supporting each other!

…AND, best of all, lots of money is raised to support all the amazing things the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City does for the community!

We will be setting up a hang out tent and bringing fun games, yummy snacks, and making a day of it. This is something you won’t want to miss!

If you can’t walk with us, we completely understand. We would still love and appreciate your support via a donation…every penny makes a difference! Click the Donate to Photography by Brandi link.

Just in case you need some motivation to participate, here is the link to last year’s event. We had a blast!

Squeals of Joy

September 13, 2013

One year old Weston has found his voice. When he gets really excited about something, he lets out a good squeal…it’s a happy squeal, but it’s nice and loud.

Sister, Olivia, likes to mimic Weston’s squeals. Olivia’s squeals are a bit more higher pitched, but luckily they’re also on the quiet side. I think her high pitch in a loud tone might have driven the dogs a bit crazy!

All in all it was a happy, squeal filled session!

A big squeal for Weston’s first birthday cake!

Don’t Let That Serious Face Fool You

September 12, 2013

Despite the fact that a senior portrait session was the last thing on Riley’s “sounds like fun” list, we survived! I enjoyed my time chatting with the sarcastically humorous Riley.

Hearing about what he’s into…like hanging out with his friends and “watching paint dry.” Learning that the class he’s most excited about is the one where you build a boat out of cardboard and then attempt to float a teacher across a pond.

Riley doesn’t let his humor flow freely, but if you listen closely, you can catch his quips and his jabs!

Have a Question

September 11, 2013

Between Elise and Evan, I don’t know who asked more questions. Elise never stopped talking her entire session. She asked about the kids in the photos on the wall, and she asked about the grasshopper hanging out on the window. But she also asked the hard, thought provoking questions. “Why do you take pictures?” or “Why do people have you take their photo?” or “How come your husband never comes downstairs?”

Evan had lots of questions, too. His were a little more repetitive and easy going. “When can I make a funny face?” or “Did you get that one?” or “When do I get a sucker?” There was definitely a theme to Evan’s question, and the theme had “boy” written all over it!

Change is Coming

September 10, 2013

It is with mixed emotions, and yet with excitement, that I write this note. For the last thirteen years, my husband Pete has been my number one fan and my constant source of support and encouragement as I pursued my photography passion into a successful portrait photography business. Now, it’s my turn to do the same for him.

Since Pete went back to the corporate world a couple of years ago, his career has been progressing in an upwardly fashion. It is now his turn to pursue his dreams and to see how high he can fly. With some recent changes at his company, he has the opportunity to reach for the stars.

With this new opportunity comes a move. We will be leaving Kansas City for the sunny skies of Phoenix, Arizona.

We are in the very beginning stages, and as you might imagine, there is a lot up in the air right now. Our house is currently on the market and it’s out of our hands as to what the timeline will be regarding a sale. (Speaking of which, if you know of anyone looking, please send them our way!)

My plan is to jump into my busy fall schedule, create and deliver lots of cards and gifts in time for the holidays and wrap things up at the end of the year.
As far as what comes next in Phoenix…I’m not sure. At this point, my current plan for next year is to make two trips back to Kansas City, probably in the May and September time frames. I’ll rent, borrow or find a studio space to use, and for a couple of weeks, take as many sessions as I can squeeze in.

So, we’re not flying away, we’re just spreading our wings and exploring a new and exciting frontier! I look forward to sharing our adventures with you all! Stay tuned on the blog, facebook and instagram for the latest news.

Naked Baby

September 6, 2013

Little Wesley was more than willing to show off his naked parts, and with all his crawling and moving around, he definitely showed them all off! There was no slowing Wes down..he went right, he went left, he went from sitting to crawling in the blink of an eye.

Although frequently on the move, he was good at glancing back at me and making eye contact with the camera! He definitely has the celebrity pause for the paparazzi look down!

Beautiful Changes

September 5, 2013

It’s been a couple of years since I last saw Lauren & Lucy, and wow they have grown up fast! They are both changing into beautiful young ladies…full of fun and spunk!

After spending time in California for the summer, they both had amazing tans and beautiful sun-blonde hair…definitely made me jealous for some beach time!

The sun also pulled out more freckles on Lauren’s face…just adding to her adorableness!

Of course, who wouldn’t be jealous for Lucy’s awesome curls. I’ve always been in love with her curls and they just keep getting more beautiful, every year!
