Three Busy Bees
Photographing these three siblings was definitely exhausting, but the whole family was so sweet and full of joy it was hard not to smile, even after they had walked out the door!
The boys kept me on my toes, trying to keep them talking and laughing, so I wasn’t getting forced cheesy and vampire smiles. We had fun telling jokes, talking about girlfriends, discussing gross boy things, like boogers and farts, and even a little sports and Super Bowl talk! Between their silly faces, serious faces and awesome smiles, I just couldn’t stop photographing their adorable expressions!
Miss Lydia made us work hard for her smiles, but when she flashed them her bright eyes shone and her pearly whites sparkled! Even her serious, thinking faces were sweet and precious!
Hopefully we wore everyone out and Mommy and Daddy got a good night sleep!

Watching Me Grow
How fun is this?!? Little Evan’s not so little anymore!

I’m Three
I get asked all the time what my favorite age is to photograph. My answer is that it always just depends on the kid. Different ages mean different things to different kids.
However, age three is almost always a great age! They’re starting to become independent. I can carry on conversations with them. We can joke and have fun. I’m still funny to them, as opposed to just dorky and weird. They’re not easily embarrassed or self conscious.
Evan’s three year old session was no different! We had a blast…acting silly, saying “boy” words, making faces, talking about the Jayhawks…and making sure I knew he was three!

Made Me Smile
My session with Jackson was most entertaining. He loved answering questions and telling me stories. We talked about his favorite animals – whales, his favorite bugs – lady bugs (he hates spiders because they’ll bite you and web you!), his favorite food – chicken nuggets and much, much more. He definitely talked my ear off!
But, my favorite part would be when he’d get real quiet. He’d look at me with his big blue eyes and a small smirk on his face. The smirk would slowly get bigger and bigger. At which point I would flash him a big smile and he’d bust out with his big adorable grin and even throw in a giggle or two!

Following Brother
Quinn and Annika are two very busy little people.
First, you have Quinn, who is a three year old speed demon. He has energy oozing from his pores. If he wasn’t moving a mile a minute, he was talking a mile a minute. I would ask him to do something and he would do it and then say, “Like this?” and as soon as I said yes, he would move on to the next thing. He didn’t quite understand the “Yes, that’s how I want you know hold still concept.” It was, “Look, I’m doing what you want, aren’t I awesome? Okay, now what?!?”
Then, we have little 18 month old Annika who is obviously trying to keep up with her brother. Wherever brother went, she was quick to follow. Whatever brother did, she was quick to do. Climbing on chairs and jumping off, sure why not! (I’m sure she learned that one from brother.)
Mommy, Daddy and I were all a bit exhausted by the end of this session. I’m sure Mommy and Daddy were glad that they could strap the kiddos into non-moving car seats for the drive home!

Meet Captain America
Matthew and his school friends are already putting their creative and imaginative minds to work. They are each a different super hero; that’s what they call each other and that’s what they call themselves.
Matthew is Captain America. He has a shield that he uses to throw at the bad people and he has a ship that flies in the sky. His ship comes with missiles and guns that he can use to save people. According to Matthew, that’s what super heroes do, they save people.
Matthew’s school must be a very safe place, because I know there is an Iron Man and a Batman and Robin there as well!

Chickens
It’s funny the things that come up during portrait sessions. During Abby’s session, I asked her what she likes to eat and she said, “Chicken”. For some reason, chickens became very funny and entertaining. We talked about what color chickens are, what they say, how many legs they have and many other chicken facts…it didn’t matter what it was, if it was about chickens it brought out the giggles in Abby.
Of course, as much as I tried, I couldn’t convince Abby that chickens were blue or purple or that they said MOO. She’s too smart for me!

High Energy
Putting these two brothers in the same confined space equals a lot of energy bouncing off the walls!
Little brother, Ryder, is a mover! Although he had yet to master walking at the time of his one year session, he was a speed demon crawler. Hands down, knees down and full speed ahead. Watch out below, because if you’re not careful, he’ll definitely trip you up.
Older brother, Payne, is the talker and the controller. He enjoys being in the middle of things and, while he’ll do what you ask, he always has a suggestion or an idea to share with you. Of course, once we asked him to help us entertain little brother, he loved that idea and committed fully to being the high energy entertainer!
Mommy definitely has her hands full keeping up with these two handsome boys!

Monkey See, Monkey Do
When working with siblings, it’s helpful when you have an older sibling who listens fairly well, and a younger sibling who copies whatever the older sibling is doing. In the case of Adele and Robert, this is exactly what I had…I also like to refer to it as the “Monkey See, Monkey Do!”
Of course, when everyone is following my instructions perfectly, this works out to my advantage. When older sister, Adele, starts to get squirrely, then I end up with a couple of squirrels on my hands!
Luckily, we had just enough listening and cooperating to offset the goofy and silly!

Talking, Talking
At three years old, Joey is a talker! He loves to talk about anything and everything…we talked about Santa, Halloween, animals, dinosaurs, tractors, puppies, airplanes, football and even lizards…just to name a few!
If you ask him the right questions, he gets really excited and the stories just explode out of him! The best part is when you ask him a question that he has to think about, the faces he makes as he’s thinking are adorable…from scrunched up noses to staring off into space.
He definitely knows how to keep the entertainment flowing!
