Thanks for Steppin’ Up

October 28, 2013

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who supported us by walking with, and donating to, our Step Up for Down Syndrome team! The support really means a lot to me!

We had nineteen team members, and lots of amazing donators! Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we were able to raise $1,530! All of the money raised for the Step Up Walk stays here in the Kansas City area and will benefit the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City! It is an awesome local organization whose mission is to provide support and resources for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. DSG also seeks to provide the entire community with information and education to broaden awareness and foster positive attitudes regarding people with Down syndrome.

The morning started out a bit chilly, but really, given the sun shine and the slight breeze, we could not have asked for a more beautiful day. As long as you were wearing layers, it was enjoyable! Although everyone wasn’t able to make the team photo, I did make everyone present take off their outer layers and show off this year’s Chiefs colored t-shirts.

There are always must conquer activities and must devour foods – for kids and adults! I know the kids in our group enjoyed the bounce houses, pony rides, kettle corn, hot dogs and ice cream, met a clown or two and loaded up on sugar! The adults needed to carry the kids for a one mile stroll around Arrowhead Stadium as all the sugar sent the kids into sugar coma exhaustion! I guess that just means all the adults were able to burn off those bags of kettle corn, multiple rice krispy treats and cups of coffee that they had enjoyed!

All in all, it was a very successful, beautiful day filled with lots of love, family, friends and support for everyone in attendance! Thanks to everyone who helped make the day awesome!

And, big thanks to my Dad…most of these photos are his doing!!

This year will likely be the last year for the Photography by Brandi Team at the annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk, and I am hoping to make it our best! To do this, I need all of your help and support! Join the Photography by Brandi team and walk with us. It’s an amazing day, and definitely worthwhile!

This year’s walk, with lots of pre-walk festivities, will take place the morning of Saturday, October 26th! Just three days before my birthday. There must be something about my birthday and the walk…they just go together!

The deadline to have the Photography by Brandi team name printed on your t-shirt is September 27th, so join my team today!! Click the Join Photography by Brandi link.

It’s the perfect event for kids, babies and adults of every age! Not only is the walk the easiest, low key stroll you’ve ever taken, but the food and activities beforehand are awesome!
- TONS of food: including fried chicken, kettle corn, smoothies, ice cream, cupcakes and even coffee for crazy peeps like me!
- Games for all the kids (big and small): Jumps and slide moon bouncers, rock climbing wall, carnival rides and games, horseback rides.
- Entertainment: roaming clowns, magicians, stilt walkers and stage performances including music and dancing. Also, new this year is a dance party tent!
- Chiefs football players signing autographs and cheering everyone on at the start line! KC Wolf giving hugs and posing for party pics.
- Thousands of friends (old and new) supporting each other!

…AND, best of all, lots of money is raised to support all the amazing things the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City does for the community!

We will be setting up a hang out tent and bringing fun games, yummy snacks, and making a day of it. This is something you won’t want to miss!

If you can’t walk with us, we completely understand. We would still love and appreciate your support via a donation…every penny makes a difference! Click the Donate to Photography by Brandi link.

This year, will you help me beat that?!? To do this, I need all of your help and support! Join the Photography by Brandi team and walk with us. It’s an amazing day, and definitely worthwhile!

Chills, Thrills & Grills

November 1, 2012

This was definitely the coldest Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk we have participated in! It was quite entertaining, walking through all the team tents and seeing the variety of portable heaters on display! I should have checked out each heater, to determine which one worked the best. If the weather is forecasted to be this cold next year, we will definitely be supplying a heater! I was bundled up, but by the end I had lost feeling in my toes, fingers and nose!

We had a small team of walkers this year, but our donators were very generous and we raised $1,290! Thank you to everyone who donated!!

A huge thank you to all our walkers! I know standing on concrete, in 40 degree weather early in the morning, is not exactly what everyone signed up for, but you were all great sports, and I think we had a pretty fun time, despite the chills!

We set up our tent and did some mingling, visiting clients and chatting with other teams. We sampled the Kettle Corn, ate some Krispy Kreme donuts and drank chocolate milk, had fried Twinkies, grilled some delicious Turkey Burgers, ate some healthy veggies and home grown pears, and topped it off with Otis Spunkmeyer cookies. We unbundled for a team photo (yes, everyone was thrilled with me for that great idea!) and then walked off all those calories in a very fast paced, one mile walk around Arrowhead Stadium! (Everyone walks a lot faster when they’re cold and have no feeling in their feet!)

(Yes, I did a bad photographer thing…we were staring into the sun! There were just SO many people in attendance…(AWESOME)…that we didn’t have any options if we wanted our sign in the photo. We’ve had the sign every year, so staring into the sun it was!)

Step Up is Quickly Approaching

There are less than two weeks before the annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk on October 27th! We are over half way to our fundraising goal, but could still use your help!

All the donations we receive will stay in the Kansas City area, and benefit the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City! This is an awesome local organization whose mission is to provide support and resources for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Release Party

July 17, 2012

Every summer, Les Bourgeois Vineyards releases three Collector’s Series wines. They hold a wine label art competition for local artists to submit work to be displayed on one of these three wine labels. Excitingly, one of my images was selected as a winner to be displayed on the Collector’s Series Merlot!

To celebrate the release of the Collector’s Series wines, Les Bourgeois Vineyards hosted a Wine Release and Art Show this past Saturday. There was lots of wine tasting, a live band to listen to, yummy food to munch on and each of the winning artists displayed samples of their artwork.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support me! It meant a lot to see all your smiling faces, and was definitely the cherry on top of a fun and eventful day!

We ended our day with a short drive into the city of Rocheport, Missouri where we had rented a room at a beautiful Bed & Breakfast – the School House. A historical three-story brick schoolhouse was renovated and converted into a cozy and comfy B&B. Not only was our room inviting, but the breakfast that they served the next morning was delicious and the perfect comfort food to end a beautiful weekend.
