Down to Business
After a little running around, a few excitedly told stories, followed by a few high pitched barks, some hair and fur touch ups, these four ladies were ready to get down to business!
I love these ladies, because there is no messing around…they are all about staying focused and getting right to work.
The only real challenge is getting them to move beyond the forced smiles…something very characteristic of all kids their age.

ARRR, MATEY!
Hand Over Yer Loot! Wishing You a Happy Halloween!
Love,
Pebbles, Bruiser, Joey, Brandi & Pete

Baby Bruiser
Is not so baby anymore! He’s about to reach the nine month old mark, and although he’s still smaller than his brother and sister, he is getting very close. I won’t let our groomer trim off all his crazy hair, so when you look at him beside his siblings, he appears to almost be the exact same size, but at least for the moment, it’s just an optical illusion.
He has a big personality to go with his big hair, and absolutely loves everyone! He’s always right there to greet you, tail a wagging, silly smile on his face. If you’re holding him, he’s pretty good about not squirming and just holding still. He loves to play fetch and tug-a-war…although torturing his siblings might be his favorite game of all. He’s constantly in Joey and Pebbles’ faces, barking, nipping and just pestering them until they play with him.
When he sleeps, he stretches out…many times on his back with his legs up in the air. He’s forever looking like he’s super exhausted, and just couldn’t go one more step! When in reality, he gets plenty of sleep!
He’s sort of trained! I wouldn’t say he’s a super dog, but he knows what to do, and the majority of the time he’ll do it. He’s definitely potty trained…knock on wood…it’s been awhile since he’s had any accidents. He knows sit and wait. He knows down, though his bootie appears to have a spring in it, because it’s forever popping back up. He walks nicely on a leash. He knows how to go get his toy, pick it up, bring it back and drop it…although sometimes he would rather play tug-a-war!
All in all, we are blessed by this silly little ball of fur we welcomed into our family! We couldn’t imagine life without him!

Growing Up
My little boy is growing up! Bruiser has only been with us for four months, but I can’t imagine our family without him! His big personality has meshed perfectly with the other big personalities in our home!
Whether Joey and Pebbles wanted him or not, he has snuck his way into their hearts. It doesn’t matter if they ignore him, growl at him or even pounce on him, Bruiser loves the attention and just keeps right on going back for more.
He and Pebbles are frequent wrestlers and chasers of each other. Pebbles puts up with all of Bruiser’s puppy behavior, from pulling on her beard and ears to swatting her in the face…she doesn’t blink an eye! To my complete amazement, she has become ridiculously tolerant of Bruiser, and definitely loves her little sidekick.
If Bruiser catches Joey at the right time of day, he can get a short wrestle out of Joey. When they’re outside, Bruiser is quick to follow Joey’s lead. Wherever Joey goes, Bruiser will follow. Left to their own, I know these two could get into some serious trouble together!
At seven months old, Bruiser now weighs in at 6.8 pounds! He’s still a bit shorter, both in length and height, than Joey and Pebbles. We’re waiting to see where his growth will stop!

A Furry Fresh Look
Our favorite veterinarian hospital, Blackbob Pet Hospital, is one of the locations around Kansas City where you can see our portraits on display.
Earlier this year, I noticed that the current portraits had been hanging for a few years. This means that it was time for a fresh look! Back in May, we invited Blackbob Pet Hospital employees to bring out their furry kids for a special Pet Portrait Day. We had cats, dogs and a little bit of craziness, but we captured some adorable images!
Now, those adorable, four legged, furry faces, including Bruiser, the Blackbob Pet Hospital employee’s “kids” and a few other Blackbob patients adorn the lobby, hallway and exam rooms.
We feel very blessed to have this opportunity to hang these beautiful portraits for all to see!

Helping Paws Sneak Peek Time!
Just a few weeks ago, we hosted our fourth annual Helping Paws event. It was a chance for our four legged kiddos to sparkle, shine and steal the limelight…and did they ever!!
Thirty-four four-legged cuties graced our studio with their adorable faces, expressions, tongues and big personalities!! We had only two kitties this year, but they were beautiful kitties with plenty of spunk! We had a four pound Papillion and a ninety pound Golden Retriever. We had all black dogs and all white dogs. We had fun, crazy hair cuties, and sleek, smooth coat cuties. We had well trained show dogs and energy filled, never stopping dogs. All in all, it was an amazing day with amazing cuties!!
To me it doesn’t matter what “type” they are, they’re all ADORABLE!!

A Good Challenge
What did I do with my holiday weekend? I attempted to get a new portrait of my three kiddos all together. Let me tell you, I’ll take photographing them individually any day! All three at the same time…AUGH!!

Ah, check out these two brothers! Only time they think about laying close together…when there’s a treat bribe!

Little B is growing up! He’s definitely getting bigger, but his size is a bit deceiving…a lot of his “height” is hair!

Introducing…
…Charlie, the New Wayside Waifs SpokesDog!
Charlie arrived at Wayside Waifs as a stray back in August, 2009. He was quickly adopted into a wonderful family that included three older, furry, four legged siblings! He was the perfect fit, considering all three older siblings are also black & white in color.
It’s estimated that Charlie is around three years old. For a three year old, he was very calm and quiet during his session. He was most happiest when he was being loved on and held! He’s definitely a lap dog and loves to give puppy kisses.
Charlie is a Papillion/Poodle Mix and his ears (thanks to his Papillion traits) have to be his best feature! They are so expressive! You can completely read his mind, simply based on the location of his ears, whether they’re back, forward, up, down or mix-matched.
What a personality!! I couldn’t imagine a better SpokesDog…who wouldn’t want to adopt a loving, adorable, full of personality, totally awesome dog like Charlie for Wayside!

Sweatin’ Time!
Welcome to summer! Ninety plus degrees outside, high humidity and bugs! Unfortunately, that is what welcomed us the evening of the M family portrait session.
Despite the sweating and the itching, they were troopers! Everyone pushed through the discomfort and found their fun smiles.
It helped that Ava & Evan had some good jokes in their arsenal. I knew it was a good sign when Ava jumped out of the car, and the first thing she said was “Knock, Knock”!

How cute is this comparison from Fall of 2008, and then two and a half years later!

Quite the Scene
I know I’ve said it before, but sometimes I think it would be funny to have a video camera in the studio and then other days, I’m so glad we don’t!
Take two doggies, two kitties, a Mommy and a Daddy and one photographer, and what do you get…a little bit of craziness!!
Doggies, Shilo and Jessie, are best of friends! Wherever big brother Shilo goes, Jessie is sure to follow. Jessie’s most at home and comfortable when she’s sitting right next to, or even right on top of, Shilo. Shilo, being the patient older brother, does not seemed to be phased by Jessie’s need for closeness!
Kitties, Mallory and Sabre, are buddies at home, and can be found curled up together, but in the studio, they had two completely different personalities. Mallory stayed pretty close to where we put her. She was just on alert and ready to run, if need be. Sabre, on the other hand, refused to hold still. He only wanted to explore and had no interest in us or what we were doing.
All in all, it was quite the show!
