All Smiles

December 18, 2013

It took some extra work, a lollipop bribe, silly jokes and a goofy Daddy, but we pulled smiles and/or perky ears out off all four kiddos of the H family!

Little four legged Bella and big brother Aiden are total go with the flow kids! They work those eyes and those expressions that just melt your heart!

Four year old Morgan has come a long way since the first time I met her. She’s gone from no smiles to super cheese! Now the challenge is calming down the super cheese for a natural smile!

Two and a half year old Alex is still testing her limits! Once we had her relaxed, laughing and smiling she has the best twinkle in her eyes…it just takes some extra work to get that…but it’s all worth it!

Slowly Warming Up

April 11, 2013

Alex is a little shy and a little reserved when it comes to performing in front of the camera. However, we are slowly making progress.

Over the last two years, I’ve seen Alex every six months. While she still remains stubborn and opinionated, like all good two year olds, there was some cooperation that occurred during this year’s session. With the bribe of a lollipop, we had a willing and able subject. Although it didn’t last long, it was a step in the right direction!

The good news is that we’ve seen this before! When Alex’s older sister, Morgan, was two years old, she had the exact same demeanor in front of the camera. Now, a couple of years later, she has no problems jumping in front of the camera and working her charm.

I’m sure Mommy and Daddy look forward to the day that Alex is just as willing and able….fingers crossed that day isn’t too far off! In the meantime, we charm, bribe and plead!

Oh the Challenges

October 2, 2012

When photographing a group of growing siblings, there is never a dull moment…every year is sure to bring a different surprise!

This year, our surprise was a completely uncooperative, quite moody, little 18 month old named Alex! In the past, we’ve had stubborn, no smile Morgan, or every photo has a tongue sticking out Morgan, or even refuses to look at the camera Alex, and last but not least growing up forced smile Aidan. It’s always entertaining!

As they grow older, they go through different stages and you just never know what that stage will bring. For Alex, it comes down to she wants to do what she wants to when she wants to do it and how she wants to do it. This means we must bend to her will, or pay the price! In the end, we were still able to capture a few of Alex’s adorable smiles!

Our no smile Morgan was no more…smiley, happy and oh so cooperative! Of course, we can’t forget our awesome rock star, Aidan…such a big helper and always happy to flash a grin!

April 3, 2012

Alex may only be one, but she’s already perfecting the two year old opinionated mind! If it wasn’t what she wanted to do, or if it wasn’t the way she wanted to do it, she was quick to let us know. At first a little whimper, then a cry and a few times she even escalated all the way up to a down on the floor tantrum. It was quite the sight to see! Of course, giggling at her dramatic ways was probably not the reaction she was looking for! With a few distractions, some love from Teddy and even a little birthday cake, we were able to get her back on track, long enough to get some sweet, big eyed, expressive Alex images!

Every Which Direction

November 21, 2011

When you take a crawling seven month old, a two year old with a bit of an independent streak and a second grader, put them all in the same room, the result can be a bit chaotic!

Aidan, our second grader, was a huge helper! He was there to help encourage his little sisters to cooperate. He was right in the mix of it trying to get them to smile. When I asked him to do something, he did it right away. He was definitely the rock star of the session!

Morgan is two, and wants to do what she wants to do. At the beginning of the session, she would follow along with whatever big brother was doing, but it didn’t take her long to decide that she wanted to do her own thing. Whether that was to walk right in front of the camera while I was photographing her little sister, or to turn her back to us while I was photographing her.

Baby Sister, Alex, was having a rough morning. Based on the eye rubs and the finger sucking, I’m guessing she was tired and ready for a nap. We took multiple breaks to fill her belly with some milk and then pushed ahead. Thanks to Daddy and Aiden, we were able to coax some good smiles out of her!

Making Us Work

August 22, 2011

Sisters, Alex and Morgan were both in stubborn moods the morning of their session. I think they had woken up that morning, and came to a secret agreement that they were going to make us work for it that morning!

Four month old Alex just wanted to do her own thing, and it had nothing to do with us! It took a lot of time and patience, and some definite Daddy time, for Alex to decide that we were interesting and also entertaining!

Two year old, Morgan, displayed her twos…in full force! She wasn’t falling for our jokes. She was in no mood for silliness. And that sucker, which I gave her as as bribe, was never going to leave her hand!

They definitely made us work for it, but we still ended up with some adorable images!

Baby Sister

April 27, 2011

Big Sister Morgan is still checking out Baby Sister Alexandra. She knows where the baby is, and she’s definitely interested in what the baby is doing. She’s also very into kissing her and touching her, which gives her the chance to learn the word gentle! She pats the baby and touches the baby, but her hand just has a lot of force behind it. She’s not trying to be hard; she’s just 18 months old and is still working it out!

The good news is that baby sister seems to be going with the flow! With an active big sister and a puppy dog at home, Alexandra is learning to be patient and easy going!

She gave us a little challenge to start off her session, but after filling up her belly, and a little cuddling on Mommy’s chest, she drifted off to sleep, ready for some camera action!
