Four Legged Success

October 2, 2013

This is the fourth time that I have photographed the four legged baby of the family…Kate! However, this was the first time we went outside…and it was by far our most successful session with Miss Kate thus far!

Kate is a sweet pup, but she has a big body that she swings around with wild abandonment. I think, when we were in the studio, we were always afraid of what she might take out in one of her romps around the room, so we kept a tighter leash on her.

Outside, she was able to romp and play as much as she wanted. So she’d hold a sit for a minute, long enough for me to capture a couple of images, and then she’d take off at a run…chasing moths and flies and anything that caught her eye. Then we’d start all over…back to her position with her two legged siblings.

I’m sure it would have been entertaining to watch, but the main thing…it was a successful Kate session!

Siblings Forever

November 5, 2012

The first time I met Xander and Faith, Xander was 7 Months old and Faith was 7 Years old. It is so much fun to have them come back to me every year for annual sessions. The changes over the years have just been amazing!

There’s the obvious changes of size, growth of hair and overall maturing of features, but there’s the other changes as well…from developing personalities, to maturity and ability to follow directions.

But the biggest one of all has to be watching the growth of their relationship. While neither of them will be the first to admit that they love their sibling, the love is definitely there. Xander has the uncanny ability to make Faith laugh…whether she wants to or not. Faith is almost a second mother to Xander, and not just in the nagging, controlling way, but with a sweet and caring eye.

At the end of the day, I know that they will always have each other’s back…and each other’s love!

Missing Steed

October 25, 2011

The only thing missing from this fun barn, hay, cowboy boots and denim session was a trusty steed! Although, with Miss Posing Faith and Mister Wild Man Xander, I’m glad I didn’t have to worry about controlling a crazy steed as well!

All in all, we couldn’t have asked for a more entertaining session! Awesome outfits, with some great boots! Perfect temperatures, crisp but warm. A small breeze with a few big gusts that we were able to wait out. A slightly overcast sunset, that kept me on my toes. A bunch on knock knock jokes that made no sense, whatsoever! Uncomfortable hay bales that poked and itched. AND a brother and sister that, despite their age difference and their personality differences, really do care about each other!

Spring Time

April 28, 2011

Spring has been slowly arriving. The green grass is replacing the brown grass. The blooms on the trees are starting to appear. The gentle breezes, and warm temperatures, are blowing in.

Always accompanying the arrival of spring is the time for First Communion portraits.

Xander is your typical eight year old boy…full of energy, into being silly and gross, never holding still, active, active, a jokester, more comfortable in jeans and a sweatshirt, a sports player and sports lover! So, asking Xander to put on a suit and tie, hold a rosary and give us nice, calm, reserved expressions…was a big deal.

Xander worked it like a pro! Yes, we had a few silly moments here and there, but for the most part he accepted the challenge and fulfilled it to the max!

Which considering, we were trying really hard to match a portrait I had taken of his older sister six years ago in her First Communion dress, we couldn’t have asked for anything more from Xander!

For the Fun of It!

March 5, 2011

As a kid, how much fun would it be to pick out your own clothes, style your own hair, add on just the right accessories…and then top it off with your very own portrait session!

Coming up on Sunday, April 10th is our Bed Head Kids event, where all kiddos, ages three and older, will have the opportunity to do just that!

In anticipation of the upcoming event, Faith, Xander and I had a test run! Not only did we have fun during the session, but just looking at these images makes me smile!

This is completely representative of their personalities! Xander looked great, with his laid back sweatshirt, t-shirt and jeans (and don’t miss the KU pendant…a very important accessory)! Faith had fun with a sassy zebra dress, an adorable hair accessory and, of course, the “a little bit crazy” knee-high, converse boots!

No Teeth & New Teeth!

October 7, 2010

Xander has lost a mouthful of teeth! He smiles his big smile and I seriously have to take a double take, because there’s a few teeth here and there, but none of them match! I absolutely love this stage! I know it looks crazy, but it so marks the change from little kid to big kid, on their way to teenager! It’s that last chance for you to look wild and crazy, but yet not be self conscious!

On the complete other side of the spectrum, is Faith’s brand new, perfectly straight teeth! After a few years of braces, multiple visits to the orthodontist, some pain and a mouth of metal, this is the pay off! I think it was worth every penny! They just look so beautiful and they shine so bright!

The differences in this brother-sister duo’s smiles are enough to make me smile!

Steppin’ Up!

September 26, 2010

I first have to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk this past Saturday! For our second year of hosting our own team, I could not be more proud! We had a cool two dozen walk participations…that’s right, 24 awesome folks walked with the Photography by Brandi team to help us promote awareness and acceptance of people with Down syndrome.

Not only that, but as a team, between registration and donations, we raised $2,030…you rock team!

The day could not have started out more perfect! Blue skies, no wind, nice temperatures! Though, the clouds to the West seemed ominous, and everyone wondered if rain was on it’s way, we stayed nice and dry. The sun was in and out a little bit, but the wind stayed mild, with just a nice breeze to keep us cool.

There was ice cream to be eaten. Popsicles to be devoured. Hamburgers, brats, fruit and chips to fill up bellies! Rock walls were climbed. Bouncers were conquered. Success was seen at the bean bag toss, when it wasn’t being used as a lounger!?! Fun, smiles and laughing were in abundance!

Yes, that’s me with my Starbucks. Thank you Tracy!! That definitely helped with the 5 AM wake up…to be out the door by o’dark thirty!

During the one mile stroll around Arrowhead, Tanner kept our team moving! He held onto our banner and marched us straight ahead. Setting a great pace that kept even the adults moving!

Of course, about half way through, Tanner felt that he had successfully led his team to victory and it was time for a victory nap!

Lily made it the entire mile with only her two little feet and lots of adult encouragement!

Riah got to ride on Daddy’s shoulders more than once!

Baby Liam even joined in the walk! Though I think he had the best deal. He successfully slept through all the noise and excitement of the walk, while being carried by Mommy!

I could not have asked for a better day, a better group of people surrounding me or a better organization to be supporting! Thank you to everyone!!

From the Mouths of Babes

August 26, 2010

In my opinion, one of the most important goals of my photography is capturing personality! That is part of why I love close-up images. I am drawn in by the eyes and the expressions! Capturing who we are during that period of life and documenting it forever…to me there is nothing better!

With our new album, The Quote, I’m taking it one step further!

One of my favorite aspects of children is their honesty and their inability to mislead or misdirect. Of course, sometimes they do not necessarily say the nicest things…like pointing out those red dots on my face…but they are not being harsh, they are just being honest.

During each session, I’m always interacting with my kiddos to bring out those personalities and those honest reactions and expressions. I frequently ask lots of questions and am always amazed and entertained by the answers they provide.

What a perfect opportunity for an album! Showing off their personality through their expressions and photographs, it also tells us their thoughts, their dreams and their hopes!

I think The Quote album will be perfect for kiddos between the ages of six and ten. If this album is something you might be interested in, be sure and let me know before the session. That way I can make sure I ask all the right questions and write down all their adorable answers!

Ants In His Pants

March 3, 2010

That was the theme of Xander’s seven year session! I don’t know if it was because he has to sit still all day at school, or if he was just getting excited because his birthday was just around the corner. Maybe it was just because he is a seven year old boy! All I know is that he did not stop moving! I would have mere seconds to capture an adorable expression, and a great look, before he was looking away, rolling away or just dropping his head.

In the end, the constant movement, the banter back and forth and the relaxed atmosphere, resulted in the true Xander captured forever in photographs. Laughs, funny faces, pensive looks and the adorable, dimple smile shows Xander’s fun loving, relaxed, sometimes a thinker, goofy, high energy personality!
